Eat and Run

Fast Food

Of my goals yesterday the hardest was eating slow. I'm busy and I live by myself so rarely sit down to a meal. More often than not I shove something into my mouth as I run out the door. Either that or I'm absentmindedly putting food in my mouth while I read or get absorbed by my computer. Not much mindfulness involved. Would formal dining make a difference? How much time will I need to make meals and then sit down to eat them slowly in a civilized manner? Would selecting dinner music be going too far?

New Goal:
Clean off my little round table.
Actually plan and make a meal.

And I never got to my last goal yesterday...

Old Goal:
Pick a form of exercise and do it.

A Muumuu and Mindful Eating

A Muumuu and Mindful Eating

Two packages arrived today. A very large muumuu from the Vermont Country Store and the book Mindful Eating: A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food from Shambala including a CD of guided exercises. The muumuu fits perfectly, a lot of very pretty fabric. I want it to be way too big for me. I want to make a quilt out of all the muumuu material I've been wearing lately.

Last night I went to a film and was snug in my seat. I am too fat to go kayaking. Doing yoga is tough because I can't sit cross-legged. I avoid seeing old boyfriends, any boyfriends. It is hard to exercise with this much bulk and even hard to walk very far carrying this much weight. My blood pressure is too high. Clearly, for my well-being, something must be done.

Goals for today:

1. Download Mindful Eating meditations to my ipod.

2. Clean up my kitchen.

3. Breathe deeply and eat slowly.

4. Decide on a exercise and do it.
